How much do you spend on beverages over the course of a day? You’ve got your Keurig K-Cup in the morning, a bottle of Gatorade at the gym, a bottle of pop from the gas station, sweet tea from McDonald’s for lunch, a mocha frappuccino to keep you going in the afternoon, and maybe you pick up a 2-liter on the way home for the family. That’s about $10 in one day on beverages alone. If you only had your morning cup of coffee and your afternoon Starbucks, you’d still be spending about $5.
What if you drank nothing but water for 1 day and that $5 went towards providing clean drinking water to a community that does not have it?
Take a look at how many friends you have on Facebook. I have over 1000. What if you and every one of your friends donated $1 towards providing water for a family for a generation? If you have 500 friends, you’d be providing water for five families of a generation. If you have 1000 friends who each donated $5, you could rehabilitate a broken community well. From $5000-$12,000 can even build a new well in a community where 25% of their time is spent fetching dirty water from an unsanitary source.
What if providing water was just the beginning? What if you could help fund spreading the love of Jesus Christ with that same $5? Would you do it?
I did. I don’t even drink Starbucks, but I donated what it would cost for one drink. If 19 other people do the same, I will meet my goal this month to provide water for one family for a generation. Over the course of the next 12 months, I am raising $100 per month to make clean drinking water a reality where people need it to survive. Will you join in and donate? All you have to do is click here and donate. It can be as much or as little as you want. My hope is that everyone who reads this blog post will donate at least $1.
I also want to let you know that in just 13 days I am launching a new blog called The Cause Blog. Living Water International will be the first featured cause, and there will be a new feature every month. The goal of The Cause Blog is to show people that they can make a difference in the world and then get them started.
*Update:
By 9:00am on the morning of this post, I’ve already raised my goal for the month. Let’s keep it going. A few more days like today and my goal of $1200 will be reached in 12 days instead of 12 months!
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
