Genesis 12-14
I’d like to know the actual state of Abram’s faith during this time. God told him that he would become a great nation, famous and blessed. He told him that the people who bless him would be blessed and the people who curse him would be cursed. Abram was told by God that He was backing him no matter what. Why then did he feel the need to lie to the Egyptians about his wife. Even knowing he had the full backing of The Most High God, he was still afraid around the people who had the earthly power.
I think that’s the way I often act. I know God’s got my back and will never leave or forsake me, but when it comes time to stand up in the face of someone in power (whether it be on their side or against them) I falter. There is a fear that they won’t like my idea, or that my theology is off, or that they are just stronger and I’ll walk away in tears. Even when Abram faltered in that moment, God showed that He was still in control.
I like the way Abram did not want the king of Sodom to take any credit for his status. He wanted all the glory to go to God rather than any man. That’s the attitude that I want to have.
Psalm 6
There is a constant battle going on. Sometimes it feels like I am an innocent bystander in this spiritual war when I should be fighting. That’s how I see the first part of this Psalm. David’s cries are directed at God through most of the Psalm, saying that he just wants the fighting to stop. It’s not until he speaks with authority towards the opposition that the answer comes from God. It’s not about calling a truce, but about defeating the enemy. Pray with authority.
