Genesis 6-7

By the tenth generation of mankind, the evil found in men had become too much.  Enter the story of Noah.  Noah is the one man noted in the Bible as still walking with God in his time.  Although God didn’t like the way the world had become, He still chose to save the one that still loved Him.  I don’t know about you, but when I am (or at least think I am) on track with God and displaying my love for Him even in my actions, I get a better sense of His protection around me.  Just like Noah was saved from the flood as God purged the evil of the world, when I have been walking close with God, I have been saved from unwanted consequences as God was purging sin from my life.  Don’t try to read more into that.  We are washed clean by the blood of Christ when we accept that gift of grace, but I don’t know of anyone who became perfect the moment that took that step.  The more you walk with Him after that decision, the more sin He purges from your life.

Psalm 3

The character of God’s love for His people is displayed in this Psalm of David through His protection of His people.  As David escaped from his son, Absalom, he praises God for protecting him in the face of danger.  Even when the mob said that he had no hope and no help from God, David still trusted Him and was saved.  That doesn’t mean that life is a bed of roses as long as you trust Him and devote every ounce of yourself to Him, but it does mean that He never leaves us in our time of need.  Not only does David praise Him for the protection, but he prays for God to defeat his enemies.  God overcomes what we cannot on our own.
