Genesis 1-2

I love that God’s word is living.  I’ve heard the creation story over and over but God has a way a speaking something new through those same words.  Each day, God reflected on His work and the day.  He took a moment to review His day and see that it was good.  How often do I go through days and even weeks without taking a moment to stop and reflect.  There’s a rhythm to God’s week.  Do the job for the day, reflect, repeat.  Not only did God pause to reflect at the end of every day, but He devoted a whole day to it at the end of the week as He rested.

Then there is the story of Adam and Eve and their beginning.  Created in His own image, Adam was tasked with caring for His creation.  To love Him with all of his heart (enjoy creation), soul (obey Him by not eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil), mind (naming every living thing), and strength (working the ground).  Then God gave him a companion, a part of himself to be with him.  Together they are one and are charged with being responsible for all of creation.  God cared for and loved Adam enough to give him everything he needed, including a wife.

Psalm 1

The theme of God’s love for us is that started in the beginning is apparent in this first Psalm.  When we fill ourselves with the Word of God, we are like a tree replanted in Eden, bearing fruit and always in blossom.  Can there be a more encouraging Word?  The wicked are like dust in the wind compared to the innocent.
