Do you strive for perfection?  Do you settle for “good enough”? I think often times we settle when we should persevere towards perfection and we focus on perfection when “good enough” is all that is possible.  There are times when “good enough” is actually just right for the situation and times when perfection is required.

I am at one of those crossroads right now.  I’ve narrowed a decision down to two options.  The cheaper options seems to work well, but there is no option for error correction.  The other option is an industry standard with functions for correcting errors on the fly, but the price is significantly higher.  The question remains, is good enough really as good as it needs to be or is perfection required in this situation?  Having two incredibly different price tags in the balance does not make that question any easier to answer.

I’ve been in other situations in the past when I have been quick to settle for what I thought was good enough.  A lot of people would say that the outcome was great, but the people whose opinion I was looking for wanted something closer to perfection.  Other times I have made significant personal sacrifices to accomplish what I thought was close to perfection, but it wasn’t the desired outcome.  So I’ve missed the mark a few times, but these moments where I’ve missed the mark have become less over time.  Too bad it hasn’t become any easier to decide between the “good enough” and the “perfect”.
