During the worship time of our staff devotions, my friend Brad shared for a moment about how when he woke up he was not looking forward to leading worship this morning.  The words of the song he led us in brought about a change in his attitude though.  God wants us to worship Him because He deserves it.  Even if we don’t want to, He deserves our utmost attention and praise, so we are compelled to worship Him.  It’s not about us.

You may have noticed that I’ve been writing a lot about God’s grace and mercy a lot lately.  The fact that The Answer is His Grace is more than enough proof that He deserves our worship.  If for nothing else, we should be praising God with every breath in response to His Grace.

I’ll admit, I’ve poked some fun at this song with some of my friends because the chord progression sounds a lot like Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, but it is a great song with amazing lyrics.  You can’t help but place your focus heavenward as you sing it.  Praise belongs to God.  He deserves our lives laid down.  He deserves praise from every fiber of my being.  It’s easy to worship when it feels good and doesn’t require sacrifice, but He deserves it as a sacrifice, even when we don’t want to give it to Him.

Praise belongs to You
Let every kingdom bow
Let every ocean roar
Let every heart adore You now
Praise belongs to You
What can I do but sing
The greatest joy I’ve found
Is to lay a crown before my King
Before my King

I’ve come to worship
I’ve come to lift up Your Name
For You deserve this life laid down
Like the one that You gave
I have but one voice
One heart and one sacrifice
So would You take this life laid down
And be glorified be glorified

Praise belongs to You
Let songs from children rise
You silence all Your foes
You set Your glory in the skies
Praise belongs to You
Creation’s calling now
For the King to be revealed
O King of Heaven come down
King of Heaven come down

Glorified
