What does it mean to be a part of a community?
Have you ever developed a community?
What did you have to struggle through in developing a community?
What attracts you to a new community?
I have so many questions. I’d love to hear your answers to any of these.
I’d love even more to hear more questions from you about community.
Hi, I was browsing through the “community” tag on wordpress and stumbled across your blog.
I am presently in the process of trying to start an intentional community. I think community is important for many reasons. I think it is God’s intent for us to live in community. In today’s world, it is especially important because when we are not living in community, in conversation, we feel the need to be able to do everything on our own. We feel the need to be able to declare what is the truth in black and white terms. But the fact of the matter is none of us are certain what is true, and those that claim they know the answers are lying to themselves to make themselves feel secure, and those that realize they don’t feel alienated and alone.
Absolutely. I have found through experience that community is an important part of growth, accountability, support, and clarity. I think that although many things find explanation between the black and white, there has to be some basic truths that community is built on. In the evangelical world, those truths include the inerrant nature of The Bible, the death and resurrection of Christ to redeem us of sin, and the love of God that surpasses all understanding. I agree that there is a lot that we don’t know, but there are certain truths that we need to hold on to.
