Autumn Is Coming

I know there is another month plus before the first day of autumn, but I am thinking about the change of seasons. Maybe it’s the cold front that came through with rain and cooler weather that’s got me thinking about the coming change. One thing is for certain; change is inevitable.

Have you ever noticed how other Christians will try to encourage you when you are going through a difficult time by saying that it’s only for a season. Your troubles won’t last forever and better times are coming. You never hear them on the opposite side when things are going great. Can you imagine someone coming up to you and saying, “The good times you’re experiencing right now are not going to last. You are going to face trials that will test you and push you to the edge. Life is going to really suck for you at some point.”

You’d probably be thinking to yourself, “Someone’s a little cranky today. I wonder what his problem is.” The fact is, that person is right. The seasons of plenty do not last forever. Eventually you will experience a dry time, whether it be financially, emotionally, or spiritually. Will you be prepared for those times?

Dry times will make you hungry. If you did not learn the art of cooking in the plentiful times, you won’t know where to start in the dry times. Times of plenty can bring complacency through many opportunities to take the easy way. If you weren’t humble enough in the dry times to learn how to navigate through difficult situations, how likely is it that you will take a more difficult route in the times of plenty even when you know the easy way is not the right way?

Different seasons in life are unavoidable. Just remember that every season can prepare you for the next. After a long, hot summer, I am ready for autumn and winter.
