What do Alabama, Arkansas, Montana, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming have in common? 35 other countries have been the source of more hits to this web site than those 7 states combined. I don’t know what it is about these states. Maybe they are beyond the 7 degrees of Tony LaMarca. Maybe they don’t have a lot of blog readers. Whatever it is that people from these states are googling, I apparently haven’t written about it. Since it’s “Freestyle Friday” and I haven’t gotten any topic suggestions, I thought I would do a little test with this post.

I find that some Google searches turn up some of the most random results. If you search york pep patties in Google, the first site in the results is from the photography business that my boss and good friend runs with his wife. If you were search lyrics illuminate “mercy doesn’t care what you’ve done” you would be guided to this site with two of the three results.

A lot of professional bloggers develop the titles of their blogs and content in a ways that help them show up higher in Google searches. I am far from being a professional blogger, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a continued upward trend in the amount of visitors that stop by the site. While I do love checking the stats of this site and a couple other sites I’ve built, I’m not going to start putting random words like Justin Bieber, Double Rainbow, Auto-Tune The News, sex, and other popular search terms into my posts just to drive more traffic to my site. It will be interesting to see how many hits I get today just because those words are now a par of this post. It will also be interesting to see if I get hits from the seven states listed above. Being the stat monkey that I am, it would be cool to see my whole map of the United States go green.

Some would probably say that it’s not healthy for me to look at stats as much as I do, but it’s more about the cool maps and pretty pie graphs than anything for me. I like seeing what it is that interests people to keep coming back. I like to see where they are from in the world. It’s not about how many people read what I have to say, but it is encouraging to see the site’s daily visits trending upward.
