It is the Wednesday of Passion (or Holy) Week and a thought struck me as I was preparing for our student worship night tonight. As I often do when reviewing songs for a worship service, I began singing other worship songs in my head after I put my guitar down. Jesus at the Center.

Jesus at the center of it all
Jesus at the center of it all
from beginning to the end
it will always be
it’s always been You Jesus.

How often do I allow other things to push Jesus out of the center of my life?

The story has always been about Jesus. “In the beginning was The Word (Jesus)…” (John 1:1).

He was there at the dawn of creation and in every situation ever since.

From the fall to the flood to the cross where He shed blood, to this exact moment in time, Jesus is.

But there is so much for us to do, and so much going on, that outside of special times we all try to move beyond.

Beyond complete dependency to rely on our own strength.

Beyond a true heart of worship to fix our eyes on what we want.

Beyond faith that can move mountains just to hear the diagnosis.

Beyond patience for God to move because we don’t have the time.

But from beginning to end, there is one constant. Jesus.

nothing else matters
nothing in this world will do
Jesus, You’re the center
everything revolves around You
Jesus You

Jesus at the center of my marriage, my children, my job, and my friends. Jesus at the center of my entertainment, my commute, my colleagues and clients. Jesus at the center of my employer, my rest, and my tasks. Jesus at the center of my house and my finances. Jesus at the center of my decisions, my desires, and my politics. Jesus at the center of how I see others. Jesus at the center of my thoughts and every action. Jesus at the center of my dreams and passions.

Jesus at the center of it all.

He has always been there, and He will always be there. He will never leave, even when we try to move beyond Him. Jesus is patient. When He is central to every part of our lives throughout the year, He makes a difference beyond us. Lives are changed beyond our immediate connections. Finances move from being a source of stress to source of joy as we bless others.

Jesus takes us beyond because He is already there. It’s just a matter of pushing everything else out of the center, and making Jesus the center.

This Friday marks the day that we remember the action that Jesus took to remove sin and death. By living a perfect life, He was the perfect sacrifice. Every sin is covered by the blood He shed on the cross. Rising again in three days, He conquered death and sin once and for all so that we could become coheirs of His Kingdom.

At the center of it all is Jesus.
